Larger, heavier drills require greater horsepower. Tynes require more hp than disc machines due to the increased drag from ground fracturing. Keep in mind your tractor's lift capacity and weight for drills being attached by 3PL. Options such as coulters, presswheels, and SSB attachments will also increase machine weight.
Three-point linkage (3PL) models are ideal for compact, undulating properties but require a tractor capable of lifting their weight. Trailing models shift the load off the tractor, making them better suited for larger sowing widths.
Disc drills tend to perform better in rocky fields and offer minimal soil disturbance when direct drilling into existing pastures. Tynes are ideal for cultivated ground. Discs, or tynes with coulters, excel in no-till farming with high stubble. Read more about disc v tynes.
Larger farms benefit from high-capacity, wider drills for more efficient sowing coverage, while compact drills suit smaller fields.
Agrowdrills excel at metering all seed sizes through the main box and can handle most seed and fertiliser types. When undersowing pastures, an additional Small Seed Box (SSB) attachment is advantageous for seed depth placement.
Machines for contracting work need to be versatile, efficient, and capable of handling varied conditions. They also need to be able to be easily driven on public roads between fields.
