How to Calibrate the Small Seeds Box

Correct calibration of your Small Seed Box. These easy-to-follow steps will ensure your seed drill is set up correctly for precise seed distribution.

Small Seeds Box Calibration Instructions

The below steps will aid you in calibrating the Agrowdrill Small Seeds Box.

TIP: There are a number of factors that influence sowing rates. These tables are offered as a guide only; your machine may need slightly different settings. We recommend you calibrate your machine according to the following instructions and re-check the results after a hectare with the metering system to ensure consistent and accurate results.

Tools Needed

  • Scales set up on a flat surface.
  • Calibration buckets.
  • Calculator.
  • 22mm spanner.

Calibration Steps

Step 1: Preparation

    1. Put enough seed in the small seed box to cover 5 rows of feed rollers.
    2. Set up High or Low Gear by placing the drive chain on the appropriate sprockets

Step 2: Set Sowing Rate

  1. Refer to the Small Seed Box High/Low Calibration Chart to determine your seed rate adjustment setting based on your desired application rate and seed to be used.
  2. Adjust the seed flow rate by shifting the drive shaft to set the choke adjustment rate. Loosen the nuts at the end of the drive shaft using a 22mm spanner.
  3. Move the shaft so the washer on the seed rate scales aligns with the required setting.

Step 3: Prime the Seed Rollers

  1. Turn the calibration handle or the jockey wheel until you see seed falling down the 5 Small Seeds Box seed hoses.

Step 4: Collect Seed

  1. Set up the calibration bucket to collect seed from the 5 feed rollers that are covered with seed.
  2. Turn the seed rollers by the number of turns listed for your model in the calibration table for your machine. This can be found on the side of your machine or in your Agrowdrill Operators Manual.

Step 5: Calculate Sowing Rate

  1. Tare your scales with an empty calibration bucket.
  2. Weigh the collected grain in grams.
  3. Multiply the weight in grams by your calibration factor. The Calibration Factor number can be found on the side of your machine or in your Agrowdrill Operators Manual. This gives you your current application rate as kg/Ha.

Target Application Amount (kg / Ha) = Weight Collected (grams)  x Calibration Factor

Step 6: Adjust Settings If Required.

    1. Adjust the drive bar to make minor adjustments to the sowing rate. If you are unable to get the seeding rate high or low enough, change the drive speed by moving the chain between the high and low gear sprockets.
    2. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the target output is achieved.
